"I have designated a widow there to provide for you.” 1 Kings 17:8
The humility of the widow in today’s first reading moves me and reminds me that the good news is about transformation, not just information. When Elijab asks her for water and bread, she tells him she has very little but is more than happy to share with him. In return. Elijah assures her that her flour will not run out.
There are so many people in our world like the widow in the book of Kings live the scripture not to be noticed but to give God all they have. Their example of selflessness challenges us not to worry so much about our security, but to trust that God will never abandon us even when we have nothing.
